Safety is an important component of any well-functioning business. For local industries, this includes the safety of employees and contractors on site, and of residents in nearby communities. It is understandable that there is risk associated with industrial facilities. Ensuring the highest safety standards, and appropriate response plans to manage and minimize risk are keys to safe industrial operations.
Local industry and municipal emergency services work closely through our area’s mutual aid emergency response association, Northeast Region CAER (Community Awareness Emergency Response) on a number of initiatives including:
- mutual aid emergency response planning
- a community notification program
- common training
- exercises and simulations
- collection of resident information
- Shelter in Place community safety education
In 2003, Northeast Region CAER implemented the UPDATEline, a toll-free 24 hour community information line. For current information on member activity, call 1-866-653-9959.
Northeast Region CAER members have access to an automated call-out system to inform registered residents about serious incidents in their area. Residents must provide their contact information. Take a moment and register.
