History
Addressing the interests of residents in Alberta's Industrial Heartland and ensuring the appropriate communication between stakeholders has long been a priority of organizations in the region.
In 2006, a stakeholder consultation process took place called the Synergy Conference. The genesis of this initiative lead by industry, municipalities and local organizations under the banner of the Industrial Heartland Collaboration to Address Resident Interests (IHCARI) was to provide a venue for Heartland residents to express their areas of interests and importance.
The outcome of the consultation was resoundingly clear with residents identifying the following as key priority areas:
- Cumulative Effects
- Risk Management
- Air Quality
- Traffic
- Noise
- Water Quality
- Education and Communication
Commitment from industry, municipalities, and local organizations continued and has now evolved into Life in the Heartland.
Goals and Objectives
Working together in Alberta's Industrial Heartland, the five partner organizations aim to:
- Provide a coordinated approach to improve resident access to information, resources, and contacts
- Proactively identify and communicate topics of concern with residents in the Heartland
This will be achieved through a variety of methods, including this website, newsletters, dialogue at community events, and distribution of resources through the partner organizations.
Engaging with residents about their viewpoints, issues, and opinions is very important to the success of Life in the Heartland. Resident input and advice on topics of interest will help ensure we provide information residents want, and identify the best ways to communicate that information.
A 2011 formal market research survey helped benchmark what the key issues of concern are.
